Odo is a changeling, discovered floating in the Denorious Belt in the Bajor System by Dr. Mora Pol in 2358 and taken back to the Bajoran Institute for Science. The Bajoran scientists labeled him "unknown specimen", which the Cardassians translated into "odo'ital," Cardassian for "nothing". It was later separated it into two words like a Bajoran name: Odo Ital. Odo must return to a liquid form to rejuvenate every 16 hours. After years as a subject of study, he assummed humanoid form and left the lab and became a constable on the Cardassian station Terok Nor when Gul Dukat needed an impartial being to investigate a spate of murders in 2365. He remained on the station as Security Chief when the Cardassians withdrew from Bajor and the Bajoran Provisional Government requested Federation assistance in operating the station, renamed Deep Space 9. He is commonly referred to as "Constable Odo" by station personnel. In 2371, the U.S.S. Defiant discovered the homeworld of the Founders of the Dominion in the Omarion Nebula in the Gamma Qudrant. He married Ambassador Lwaxana Troi of Betazed in 2372 when she found out that her yet unborn baby would be taken away from her. The marriage was later annulled.
