Leader of the Bajoran resistence cell that bore his name during the Cardassian occupation of Bajor. Following the Cardassian withdrawal in 2369, Shakaar settled on a farm in his home province of Dahkur. Unfortunately, the farmland had been poisoned by departing Cardassian forces, and could not grow crops without treatment by soil reclamators. These reclamators were made available by the Bajoran government in 2371, but before they could be used, acting Minister Winn ordered the machines returned. When Shakaar and his neighbors refused to cooperate, Winn's political inexperience led her to escalte the incident to the brink of armed conflict. Popular support for Shakaar's position subsequently led him to be elected Bajoran First Minister, a significant setback for Winn's political ambitions. He faced very little opposition. Shakaar Edon was first seen in "Shakaar" (DS9). |
